Verizon to stop blocking tethering apps, pay $1.25 million fine to FCC

. The Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday announced that Verizon Wireless (VZ) will no longer be blocking tethering apps from mobile app stores. The nation's largest carrier was being investigated for violating the FCC's “C Block rules,” which allow customers to freely use the devices and applications of their choosing. “Today's action demonstrates that compliance with FCC obligations is not optional. The open device and application obligations were core conditions when Verizon purchased the C-block spectrum,” said FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski.
