Caption Contest: Eric Schmidt does 'Gangnam Style' with PSY

Did you honestly think Eric Schmidt went all the way to Seoul just to launch the Nexus 7 for South Korea, hang out with Samsung's JK Shin and moan about the patent war with Apple. Of course not. The Google chairman also found some time to learn the legendary "invisible horse" dance with PSY, the charismatic oppa in the Korean chart-topper Gangnam Style. While Google Korea was happy to supply a few photos, the only video we could dig up was a surprisingly short one hosted by Daum - it's embedded right after the break.

Skyrim: Dawnguard for PlayStation 3′s status not expected to change “soon”

Skyrim: Dawnguard for PlayStation 3′s status not expected to change “soon”

So we know that both Sony and Bethesda are hard at work trying to get Skyrim: Dawnguard to work on the PlayStation 3. It's rather unfortunate given that Hearthfire has already been released but PlayStation 3 owners have yet to play the first Skyrim DLC. That being said, it seems that the work being done on the PlayStation 3 version is still going on and it does not appear that we might be seeing it anytime soon. According to Bethesda's Pete Hines via Twitter, he revealed that this was not a situation where the status is expected to change "soon" and there is no quick or easy solution to it.

Microsoft details its own Windows 8 rollout, lessons learned from 'dogfooding'

If a company won't use its own products, how can it expect others to. Many customers, especially on the enterprise side of the equation, are understandably a little wary of the drastic change that awaits them when upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8. So, Microsoft decided to share what it has learned from its own experience dogfooding the new OS around the Redmond campus (and likely beyond). While the company is a little light on specifics of the low-volume rollout, it does highlight some of the features available to IT departments that should make transitioning easier. It even offers a few pointers along the way.

The Nook Simple Touch can run a Genesis emulator, but should it?

There we were, thinking touch-based versions of gaming classics were a bad idea on a device intended for gaming - and then we saw Sonic the Hedgehog 2running on a Nook Simple Touch. YouTube user "ndncnbvcuyuys" rooted his touch-based Barnes & Noble e-reader, installed the Android 2.1 OS on it, and hooked up a Sega Genesis emulator. The results are not what we'd call "ideal," but as the hacker says, "It is playable." Sure, technically speaking, the on-screen virtual buttons allow interaction with Sonic and his buddy Tails, but whether it's any fun at all is another question altogether.

The cost of charging your iPhone 5 for a year is just 41 cents

. Good news: The iPhone 5 doesn't just feel light in your hand, it will also feel light in your electric bill. The energy-consumption researchers at Opower on Thursday released a study showing that Apple's (AAPL) newest smartphone costs just $0.41 per year to charge, or $0.12 less than the Samsung (005930) Galaxy S III. In fact, Opower says that the only big-name consumer device to suck up less power than the iPhone 5 was the iPhone 4, which cost just $0.38 to charge per year.

Kickstarter Implements New Rules: Not a Store, It Insists

We have seen plenty of interesting gadget projects being funded on Kickstarter, but it seems the crowd-funding website has spotted some loopholes along the way. Kickstarter has announced on its official blog that it will carry out new rules aimed at project creators. Judging by the title of the blog post alone, “Kickstarter Is Not a Store,” we can see the problems Kickstarter is facing.

Those excited about what handsets RIM will belatedly produce at the start of next year should check out these two pictures of an L-Series handset taking it easy on someone's desk. There isn't much to glean from the pair, aside from confirmation that the battery door is the entire backside of the device in the image that you'll find after the break.

2013 Fiat Panda 4x4 is 'go anywhere' in a small package

Fiat has already dropped all of the info for its new Panda 4x4 mini utility, but the Paris Motor Show allows us to finally see this prospective future Jeep in the flesh. Claimed to be the only four-wheel-drive offering in Europe's A-segment, the 2013 Fiat Panda 4x4 promises to be a proficient off-roader in a very small package. From the sounds of it, this latest Panda 4x4 is no softroader, with permanent four-wheel drive that maximizes off-road capabilities through a torque-on-demand system that features a pair of differentials.

Apple patent describes “shake to charge” technology that could one day power iPods and iPhones

You know how you have some gadgets that you can shake in order to power it. Dubbed electromagnetic induction, this is a production of an electric current in a conductive element as it moves through a magnetic field, which in turn is used to generate power for the abovementioned gadgets. Apart from its rather novel value, does it have a place as an Apple-like feature. While currently used to power some flashlights and radios, a patent granted to Apple has revealed the Cupertino company's plans to use this technology in their products in the future.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Review

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Review

After the success of the Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung has decided to "double down" with their stylus-powered line of product, and that's how the Galaxy Note 10.1 was born. It brings everything that was good with the Galaxy Note smartphone into a 10.1 tablet which is also equipped with an infra-red sensor. Along the way, the company made some improvements on the pressure-sensitive display: it can now sense 1024 levels of pressure, making it possible for the electronic "ink" to grow larger or go darker as the pressure increases.

Unlocked Sony Xperia Acro S now available in the US for $599.99

Unlocked Sony Xperia Acro S now available in the US for $599.99

The Sony Xperia Acro S is now available in the US of A. It can be yours, in unlocked form, for $599.99. Sony's continuing to make its Android devices purchasable in the USA sans contract, and in a way that's great. At least for the hardcore Sony fan who doesn't want to sign long-term commitments with carriers.

For everyone else, $600 upfront for a smartphone probably seems excessive.

RIM: BlackBerry 10 carrier testing starts in October, OS remains on schedule

Worried that RIM might face any further delays of BlackBerry 10. Don't be. CEO Thorsten Heins just confirmed at his BlackBerry Jam presentation that carrier testing for the new OS should begin this October, and that the platform launch is still slated for early 2013, as we were told this spring. As he's mentioned in the past, Heins believes carriers are "excited" about the BlackBerry update, implying that this is what's driving the certification process months in advance.

BoxWave GeckoGrip Samsung Galaxy S3 Case Review

BoxWave GeckoGrip Samsung Galaxy S3 Case Review

I normally don't use a case on my phone. But my latest phone (Samsung Galaxy S3) feels too plasticy (technical term, look it up) and slippery. I've been trying to find the thinnest back cover that adds grip without a lot of bulk. BoxWave offered to send me their GeckoGrip case, I accepted and have been using it for the past few days. Here are my thoughts.

Note: Images can be clicked to view a larger size.

First of all, the inside of this snap on back cover can be used as a mirror due to its shiny chrome finish. It looks like polished metal, but it's really just plastic.

The GeckoGrip is available in 6 different colors.

European regulators set to file antitrust suit against Microsoft

. Regulators in Europe are reportedly set to file an antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft (MSFT) related to the company's failure to comply with a three-year-old ruling ordering it to offer users a choice of Web browsers on Windows PCs. An investigation into Microsoft's breach of the order was opened this past July, and the company had previously acknowledged the violation last year. “The next step is to open a formal proceeding into the company's breach of an agreement. We are working on this,” EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said on Thursday.

2013 Citroën DS3 Cabrio shows trick folding top to the world

2013 Citroën DS3 Cabrio shows trick folding top to the world

Citroën's DS3 line has been a huge success in its home market of France ever since the car was launched in 2009. Sitting in the fat-middle part of the luxury category, it only makes sense that a convertible variant for the DS3 pop up sooner or later – and later is the Paris Motor Show. The 2013 DS3 Cabrio should provide a stylish roofless option for European customers when it goes on sale in the beginning of 2013, especially as it boasts the same buttoned-down bodylines of the standard hatchback. That pattered, fabric roof affair slides and folds neatly away automatically, and can come to rest in one of two positions.

LG Optimus L7 leaks for Boost Mobile as the Venice

LG Optimus L7 leaks for Boost Mobile as the Venice

The merriment continues at evleaks, which just spilled another smartphone via Twitter. This time it's the LG Venice for Boost Mobile: a rebadged version of the Optimus L7 that just so happens to sport a handsome silvery backplate. This is the second version of the Optimus L7 to be geared for US shores, the first being the Splendor for US Cellular. Absent any drastic changes, shoppers can rightfully expect to find an Android 4.0 smartphone that's paired with a single-core 1GHz CPU, a 4.3-inch WVGA display and a 5-megapixel camera that'll capture video at 720p.

Daimler sounds alarm on new AC refrigerant, may be flammable

Daimler sounds alarm on new AC refrigerant, may be flammable

Just like the R-12 refrigerant that was phased out of cars in the 1990s, it appears R-134a is on its way out, as well, in favor of the more environmentally friendly R-1234yf. While R-134a definitely isn't as harmful to the ozone as R-12 was (which led it to be banned), the newer R-1234yf has a far lower global warming potential than the refrigerant currently used. This sounds good for the environment and all, but Daimler AG may have just stumbled upon an issue with this refrigerant that could throw a wrinkle into the switch plans.

Foxconn has 150,000 workers building the iPhone 5 and still can't keep up with demand

. Apple (AAPL) announced earlier this week that it sold 5 million iPhone 5 smartphones during the handset's first three days of availability but that staggering figure didn't please some analysts, who were expecting opening weekend sales to reach as high as 10 million units. The idea that weaker than expected demand may have been the culprit for the discrepancy can likely be set aside, however, as a new report suggests that Apple has dramatically increased iPhone 5 orders for the month of October.
