Dropcam HD WiFi Camera Review

Dropcam HD WiFi Camera Review

My friends at work used to give me funny looks when I'd announce that the Fedex guy just dropped a package off at my house. At first they thought I had somehow obtained a super power of either ESP or remote viewing. While having a super power would definitely be awesome (and I still think I should have gotten one after all the radiation treatments I had last year), I have to admit that I cheated… I knew that the Fedex guy had been at my house, because my Dropcam told me so. The Dropcam is an easy to setup WiFi camera, that can be accessed from any web browser and a special Android or iOS app.

Scientists develop flush-efficient toilet system that can turn waste into energy, sort before it recycles

Scientists develop flush-efficient toilet system that can turn waste into energy, sort before it recycles

Scientists from Singapore's Nanyang Technological University aren't keen on being wasteful - that's why they've developed a toilet that uses 90% less water than other commodes and is capable of generating energy. Aptly named the No-Mix Vacuum Toilet, the porcelain pedestal's pot divides waste between two partitions - one side for liquids, the other for solids - and uses vacuum tech reminiscent of airline lavatories. Flushing fluid and solid wastes with 1 and 0.2 liters of H2O, respectively, the can will be able to route refuse to external processing facilities.

FEMA and National Weather Service launch Wireless Emergency Alert System

FEMA and National Weather Service launch Wireless Emergency Alert System

While it's a little later than expected, the free SMS emergency notification system has now gone live. Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) messages will be delivered to cell towers in affected areas, which will then broadcast them to all compatible devices in their range. While the system is looking to cover over 97 percent of the country, it's being gradually rolled out across carriers. Sprint and Verizon are both apparently ready for action and while we haven't heard about the status of T-Mobile or AT&T, the National Weather Service has stated that hundreds of smaller carriers haven't yet enabled the broadcasts.

Carbon Audio Zooka Wireless Speaker Bar

Carbon Audio Zooka Wireless Speaker Bar

Wireless speakers for portable devices have become quite common for the convenience that they offer. And with the limited range of audio that most mobile devices offer, having an additional speaker to connect to would really boost up the audio experience right off the bat. And if the speakers look just as good as the new Carbon Audio Zooka Wireless Speaker Bar, then things would even be better. The Carbon Audio Zooka Wireless Speaker Bar is primarily designed for use with the popular Apple iOS devices.

10-inch Google Nexus tablet reportedly in the works too

10-inch Google Nexus tablet reportedly in the works too

The Asus-made Google Nexus 7 tablet has been announced just two days ago, yet it seems like the search giant isn't going to stop its hardware efforts there. As you may have figured by now, there apparently will also be a 10-inch Google tablet at some point. A Nexus 10, let's call it. That seems pretty logical, and it's what Digitimes‘ (in)famous ‘industry sources' have said is on the way. The touch panels for that Nexus 10 will come from Wintek and AU Optronics, making the former company Google's biggest supplier for those parts, since it also makes the OGS (one glass solution) panels for the Nexus 7.

Again, this makes sense.

What's the right way to read an automotive quality report?

Why No One Quality Report Tells The Whole Story. Quality remains one of the most significant factors for folks buying a new car. Once upon a time, word of mouth was the only way to differentiate between one brand and another, an important yet oftentimes unreliable approach. Then, back in the 1970s, a one-time Ford analyst by the name of J. David Power revolutionized the industry with his first quantitative studies of vehicle quality and reliability. Today, J.D.

Sony drops VAIO T from free PlayStation offer, hikes real cost of entry to $970

Remember how it seemed too good to be true that Sony's back to school promo would let you buy a VAIO T and get a free PlayStation 3 or Vita worth a third of the value of the Ultrabook you just bought. Well, it was. Sony has quietly dropped the $750 laptop from the PCs that qualify for the deal, raising the real qualifying price to $970 for a 15.5-inch VAIO S. Some will cry foul at being denied such a killer bargain without warning, but it's easy to see why Sony backed out: that's a lot of gear to give away for little in return.

Cracking the Nexus Q, Google's 25-watt amplified obsession

"We're missing a nut," says a bemused Matt Hershenson, former Danger founder and now Google's director of hardware for Android, pointing at a vacant spot on an exploded photo of the Nexus Q. Its parts are strewn out across a white background, perfectly arranged in a linear pattern that starkly contrasts with the spherical nature of the thing. "Wow, you're right," agrees Joe Britt, engineering director at Google and another former Danger founder. "It's like the illuminators, you know, the monks who used to draw up the codexes." Hershenson picks up the reference without missing a beat: "Everybody needs to make at least one mistake.

Microsoft explains reason for ditching Start button in Windows 8

. Microsoft shocked the world when it decided to remove the Start button from Windows 8. The removal of the button, which has been featured in the operating system for more than 15 years, puzzled many early adopters. In an interview with PCPro, however, Microsoft revealed that consumers had actually stopped using the button in favor of the taskbar. “When we evolved the taskbar we saw awesome adoption of pinning on the taskbar,” said Chaitanya Sareen, principal program manager at Microsoft. “We are seeing people pin like crazy. And so we saw the Start menu usage dramatically dropping, and that gave us an option.

Per StreetInsider, the latest batch of Apple hype comes from Wells Fargo, which on Wednesday reiterated its Outperform rating on Apple's stock and said that the next-generation iPhone “will be the biggest product launch in consumer electronics' history” when it's released this fall. Given that every new iPhone model has been dubbed the “biggest product launch ever” by one entity or another over the past five years, this isn't surprising.

Dr. Paolo Macchiarini is no stranger to world firsts, and less than a year after performing a synthetic windpipe transplant, the Karolinska Institute Professor has coordinated no less than two successful transplants of synthetic sections of larynx. Amazingly, both patients were able to breathe and talk normally straight after surgery, the basic functions we take for granted that they either struggled with or were simply unable to do before.
