Delta Confirms It Will Give Surface 2 Tablets To 11,000 Pilots

A few days back we picked up on a report which claimed that Delta pilots will be equipped with Microsoft's new Surface 2 tablets. It should be noted that back in 2011 the airline ran an Electronic Flight Bag program under which its pilots were provided with iPads to use instead of the traditional paper based flight bags. The report claimed that Delta would instead opt for the Surface 2, despite the fact that iPads are already being widely used both in the cabin and in the cockpits as well by various airlines. Delta has confirmed today that it is going to equip 11,000 of its pilots with Microsoft's latest tablet.

Some automakers market the same cars around the world, while others offer different models – even under the same nameplate – for different markets. We're thinking of cars like the Volkswagen Passat or the previous Mazda6. Honda's been known to do so as well, with models like the Accord and Odyssey, which are completely different in North America than they are in other parts of the world. Now Honda has provided the first glimpse at the Odyssey minivan it offers for the Japanese Domestic Market (as well as Europe and other parts of the world).

The incident, which occurred yesterday afternoon in New York City, looks to have been started when the Land Rover driver bumped one of the motorcyclists (it's difficult to tell from the video whose fault this was). The incident momentarily brought traffic to a standstill, but escalated anew when the SUV driver ran down a number of riders while attempting to leave the scene.

Japan still loves vending machines, so Google made one for Google Play downloads

There's been a bit of a strange infatuation with vending machines over in Japan over the years, with the big boxes spitting out everything from noodles to beer, and everything in between. Now, Google is looking to capitalize on that trend by offering a vending machine of their own. The company has launched the first ever Google Play vending machine. No, it doesn't hold Nexus devices. In fact, it doesn't hold any physical items for purchase. Instead, customers can use the vending machine to discover new apps, and download them right there using NFC-enabled phones.

Compare that to 221 and 254 ppi for their predecessors and 264 ppi on the iPad 3; quite brilliant in conference room lighting. For by-the-pool readers, there's also a dynamic image contrast feature, which one exec pulled out a flashlight to demo. The feature works by shifting the display's contrast, rather than brightness, to compensate for external changes in lighting.

We're sure there are many iOS users out there who were pretty pleased when Apple announced that the iWork apps would be free for download with new iOS device purchases, presumably to make iOS devices better for productivity which is one of the arguments Microsoft is using to make their Surface tablets more appealing. In any case it seems that there are several iOS users who have complained that the apps are giving them the "blue screen of death", basically crashing their devices and in some cases even forcing the handset to reboot which we can only imagine to be very annoying.
