Hyundai is making better interiors by using volcanic rock?

Hyundai is making better interiors by using volcanic rock?

Cloth, leather, Alcantara and that weird netting on the dashboards of some Chevrolet Cruze sedans are all examples of the varied materials employed to build the interior spaces of modern automobiles. Hyundai is exploring new ways to bring the passenger cabin together, and the newest item at the Korean automaker's disposal is volcanic rock. Hyundai wanted to add a bit more luxury to the passenger space of its newest models. The Elantra and Accent both needed fabric-wrapped A-pillars to up the class quotient inside, but that would have raised the customer's purchase price.

Buttons: blind camera concept

Buttons: blind camera concept

Here is one interesting camera you won't find on sale. Called Buttons, this camera is unlike any other camera you've seen before. Featuring no optical components at all, it is essentially a blind camera that relies on other people to take photographs for you. The brainchild of Sascha Pohflepp, Buttons is a camera that doesn't capture photographs in the traditional way. In fact it doesn't even “capture” photographs.

When you hit the shutter button, that exact time you pressed the button is stored on the camera (which actually features a Sony Ericsson phone that's running a modified operating system).

Odd news this is, but well, it looks like Motorola might be prepping to give the Nike+ SportWatch a run for its money. An intrepid tipster sent along a screenshot from a recent survey showing off what looks like a tricked out nano watch. Described as an “all-in-one fitness and music personal fitness device” (redundant much?) that packs a GPS for “accurate performance tracking,” the as of yet unnamed gadget also sports a “smart music player” that compiles a list of songs based on the tunes that help you sweat your best.

It's LG's turn to show its report card - things are looking up, but the handset division is still struggling to turn a profit. It posted a $49.8 million operating loss for the second quarter of 2011, though that's only about half of what it lost in Q1 2011. Shipments of LG phones grew quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) to 24.8 million units, with smartphone numbers on the rise as feature phone demand decreases. Sales are up 11% QoQ to a total of $3 billion, thanks to better smartphone sales.

Jialong submersible from China to complete world's deepest dive

Jialong submersible from China to complete world's deepest dive

China seems intent on making a name for itself around the world after emerging from its slumber of a few decades, and soon, the world's most populous country might overtake the world's biggest economy as well. Industry is not in short supply at all, with the Jialong submersible being the test case for Chinese scientists in their attempt to complete the world's deepest dive. This manned submersible is said to hit the depths sometime next year, where it will attempt to touch the 7,000 metres (22,966 ft) mark beneath the sea's surface – after plenty of test dives, of course.

The Lion has been released for nearly a week now, but you guys are only getting the plain vanilla 10.7 version. However, developers have been pushed forward with a new 10.7.2 update of the Lion. This update doesn't bring any bug fixes or anything to the operating system overall, but what does it do. Well, this pending second update (build 11C26) is required for testing the operating system with iCloud — a feature notably absent in the public version of the OS released last week. The new System Preferences iCloud module enables granular management of select features, letting you choose which accounts and services to sync.

FDA-Approved Viberect Helps Men with Erectile Dysfunction

Viagra and Cialis are the drugs of choice for men who want to remove the “dys” in erectile dysfunction, but those who have tried it were at risk of a variety of side effects such as headache, flushing, back pains, nasal congestion, impaired vision, and even heart attack. The FDA has recently approved a device that serves as a risk-reduced alternative. The Viberect, manufactured by US-based “urological solutions” company Reflexonic, not only claims to help men with erectile dysfunction but also patients with spinal cord injuries who never get their penises function.

Luxury car maker Porsche is rolling out their new line of “Driver's Selection” road bikes, in addition to the mountain bike the company previously unveiled. The Porsche Sport (or “S” as it is referred) features an aluminum frame, an 11-gear belt drive, and weighs a bit light at 12 kilograms. Meanwhile, the Porsche Rennsport (RS) weighs much lighter at 9 kilos, mainly due to its carbon frame and forks, and features a 20-gear Shimano derailleur that comes with a traditional chain and clip-in pedals. Both luxury bikes have Magura ceramic disc brakes.

A couple of weeks ago we first told you that the Samsung Galaxy Gio was headed to Bell in Canada. Back then the only thing we knew about when that will happen was that it would be sometime in August. Thankfully, today we have a more specific date to talk about. The image you see below represents a screengrab of a Bell system which was leaked to MobileSyrup. We have no reason to doubt this image's authenticity, and given that August 4 is so close, we don't expect there to be any (big) delays.

China clams down on fake Apple stores

Surely the fake Apple stores that are located in Kunming, China, are having a hard time at the moment since authorities have started to clamp down on the whole shenanigan. It seems that a worker with the city's industrial and commercial department let out that inspectors will go through individual store's business licenses, authorized permits for brand use, and purchase channels so that nothing like this will happen again – hopefully the offenders will not be shot. All results of the findings will be announced to the public in due time.

HTC Salsa ditches Facebook button for Weibo in China

HTC certainly knows well enough not to bite the hand that feeds them, and the move to replace the Facebook button with that of Weibo, a micro-blogging Web service in China, on the HTC Salsa is a logical one – after all, Facebook is banned in that part of the world, never mind that Mark Zuckerberg has been taking time to learn the Chinese language and perhaps, hoping to crack the market eventually. Said Facebook button has been replaced by Sina Weibo, where it has been renamed to 'Weike' ( 微客 ).

HTC Ruby for T-Mobile gets leaked on Flickr

A few days back an unknown HTC device was spotted in some pictures on Flickr. The pictures were actually of the HTC Flyer but thanks to its glossy display (which otherwise would be a bit of an annoyance) we were able to get a sneak peek at the back of this mysterious HTC handset. The phone has a simple white plastic cover on the back for the battery, which suggests this could be a mid-range device as HTC usually employs unibody aluminum construction for their more expensive handsets. You can see the camera lens on the back with dual LED flash and the loudspeaker grille.

Ok, I admit that we where pretty far from the actual crash test in a secure location with other journalist to enjoy one of the most impressive and interesting demonstration that I have witnesses in a long time. Like every automakers Toyota is working hard to make cars more and more reliable and not only safer to drive but also safer to the others, and you can imagine that bigger the company is, bigger is the task. Being capable to test a care in all possible ways needs a dedicated "play Ground" where engineers torture and test cars before their launch as well developing and fine-tuning new technologies.
