2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid

2013 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Giving Vanilla A Good Name. "Vanilla." Taken in modern context, that's not a compliment, but it should be. Vanilla actually has exotic origins, and as spices go, only saffron is more costly. Despite the realities, calling something "vanilla" is not whistling in admiration. The Toyota Camry has been called "vanilla" countless times since its debut, but both the car and the bean have something up their sleeves.

Scoff all you want, but vanilla is the most popular ice cream flavor, and there is no mainstream sedan that outsells the Camry. Apparently, vanilla has an underlying tinge of filthy lucre.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible headed for Geneva debut

While most of the world is still coming down from all the hype surrounding the debut of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this month, we're already looking to the future. And according to Autoweek, the next chapter in the C7 story will unfold at the Geneva Motor Show in March. That's right, General Motors is reportedly using the Swiss stage as its venue to debut the Corvette Stingray convertible. If this strikes you as odd, you aren't alone. After all, with a car that's such an American icon, we'd fully expect Chevrolet to unveil it here on our shores in either Chicago or New York.

“Air Mouse” – integrated wireless mouse and keyboard

Thanko is now selling “Air Mouse” which is a wireless mouse unified with a keyboard. By Internal gyro-censor recognizing the tilt, it allows you to move the mouse cursor, to click and scroll in the air. While mouse and keyboard operations can be very effective wirelessly, this product is interesting in that it combines both and is so compact. Users can basically operate their computers remotely with a palm-sized mobile unit.

When you don't use it, the mouse operation stop key will prevent glitches.

Blue Oval's new Cargo cab-over rig is largest 'One Ford' initiative yet

Blue Oval's new Cargo cab-over rig is largest 'One Ford' initiative yet

The imposing commercial truck above has a feature that might be surprising to most Autoblog readers – a Blue Oval emblem on the front. Here in North America, Ford simply doesn't play in the eighteen-wheeler sandbox, but that doesn't mean that the Dearborn-based automaker is absent in the heavy hauling space in other parts of the globe. In fact, Ford presently fields two completely different big rig ranges under the Cargo moniker – one a product of an Eastern Europe/Turkey joint venture, and another from Brazil. But that's about to start changing with the advent of this new cab-over model seen here.

The New Tronic Carbon Fiber card wallet is flexible but not RFID-proof

The New Tronic Carbon Fiber card wallet is flexible but not RFID-proof

It seems the ongoing new trends in card wallets is thin, hard-cased and RFID-safe, but the new Tronic Flexible Carbon Fiber card wallet bucks that trend. The Tronic wallet is an ongoing Kickstarter project being developed by Peter Wright out of the United Kingdom. What makes this wallet different from others I've seen lately are two basic things: the use of carbon fiber, which gives the Tronic wallet a thin and flexible profile, and the fact that it does not block RFID signals. Most similar card wallets/holders/cases I have seen tend to be hard, non-flexible, bulky in your pocket, and weigh more then the items they carry.

2014 Chevrolet Silverado tows in new configurator, microsite

Judging by your continued enthusiastic response to configurator notices, dear reader, you enjoy speccing out new cars as much as we do. Better still, there tends to be even more ways to personalize, configure and bloat theoretical MSRPs on full-size trucks as there are with more ordinary passenger cars. In addition to trim level, engine and transmission choices, truck buyers usually have to specify items like cab configuration, bed length, number of driven axles, tow packages, gear ratios and all sorts of bits and bobs.

When a bumper case is just too much

When a bumper case is just too much

I'm not sure I see the benefits in this case, but apparently a lot of people at Kickstarter did when they funded this project at more than 200% of the goal.  The Radius case for iPhone 5 from mod-3 takes minimalism to a new level.  It covers only the corners of the phone, with a thin X of aluminum across the back to hold the four corner pieces in place.  The designers at mod-3 say they found that the most frequent damage to their “naked” phones occurred at the corners, so they designed a case to protect only the corners.

Mediafire – 50GB more free cloud storage

Need even more online Cloud storage.  We've tried to keep you up to date with what's available so here's another free offering.  When you sign up with MediaFire they'll give you 50GB of storage. It is their basic offering so there's no batch uploading, files sizes are limited to 200MB and long term storage is “limited” (there's no indication of how long this is so I'd be careful about storing important archival files up there).  As well as being able to share links to share files (again limited to 15 days with your free account), there's a file explorer extension to upload to Mediafire and clients for both iOS and Android.

Spotlight Shifter 3 flashlight review

Spotlight Shifter 3 flashlight review

A while ago, I was sent a selection of personal flashlights from Spotlight ( see related items below). Out of the blue one day, a package arrived from Spotlight that neither Julie or I knew anything about.  Inside was their new Shifter 3 flashlight. It's nice when a review item arrives when you're expecting it, but it's even nicer when it just turns up randomly.  I just hope it doesn't happen again, as I've left the address they obviously have on record. :p

While best known for their small and pocketable flashlights, it looks like they're widening their market.

Rolls-Royce teases Wraith debut in Geneva

Rolls-Royce is headed to the 2013 Geneva Motor Show with a new addition to its lineup: the Wraith. The ultra-luxury automaker says it plans to start deliveries by the fourth quarter of this year, though details are scarce at the moment. The automaker has contented itself with saying the Wraith will the "most dynamic, powerful and beautiful Rolls-Royce in the company's history." We hear it will be the most modest, too. Rolls-Royce first began using the Wraith nameplate in 1938.
