If each new generation of Apple's (AAPL) iPhone sells roughly the same number of devices as all the previous generations combined, then what does that say about how well the soon-to-be-announced “iPhone 5″ will sell. Asymco analyst Horace Dediu crunched some numbers and projects that while sales of Apple's next phone might not add up to all previous-generations iPhone sales, it will still be able to sell an impressive 170 million units over its first four quarters on the market.
