French carrier Orange announces Facebook “social calling” service

French carrier Orange announces Facebook “social calling” service

There have been plenty of rumors suggesting that Facebook could be interested in making another mobile phone despite the less than stellar reception they had with the HTC ChaCha. Whether those rumors pan out remain to be seen, but in the meantime it certainly looks like the social networking giant has a lot of interest as far as the mobile scene is concerned. French carrier Orange has recently announced that they would be offering a "social calling" service via Facebook. Basically what this does is that it enables users to call each other or even create group calls without needing to know the other person's number.

Zombie Bottle Opener

Zombie Bottle Opener

Let's face it, zombies are in at the moment.  But if you watch all the shows, you'll know that all they do want to do is eat your brains. Well Neatoshop has come up with a way of making a zombie useful.  Their USA-handcrafted Zombie Bottle Opener is made from urethane resin and handpainted, so no two openers will be exactly the same.  They measure in at 1-3x4″ x 4-1x2″ x 2″ (4.5 cm x 11.4 cm x 5 cm).

Mini Countryman by X-Raid set for Dakar

Mini is gearing up to head back to Dakar. The company campaigned five ALL4 racecars last year, and took the overall victory with driver Stéphane Peterhansel and co-driver Jean-Paul Cottret. Second place also fell to Mini, and the remaining three cars soaked up spots in the top ten for an impressive finish. This year, Mini is headed back with specially-prepared Countryman models in competition as Peterhansel attempts to defend his crown from a new crop of rivals.

Homeless man jailed for charging his cellphone in a park

Homeless man jailed for charging his cellphone in a park

28-year old Darren Kersey is homeless, and he needed to charge his cellphone badly. So he decided to use an electric outlet at a public picnic shelter in Gillespie Park. But to Kersey's surprise, he was arrested instead by a police officer for stealing city utilities. Sarasota Police Sgt. Anthony Frangioni arrested Kersey on Sunday last week and told the 28-year old that "theft of city utilities will not be tolerated during this bad economy."

The officer also told Kersey that he should have charged his cellphone at local shelters, and not in the park. Kersey was eventually jailed because he was not able to pay the $500 bail.

Curiosity rover finds radiation levels on Mars are safe for humans

Curiosity rover finds radiation levels on Mars are safe for humans

It's been three months since NASA's Curiosity rover set foot wheels down on Martian terrain, and now the space agency has divulged what it's learned about radiation on Mars. Marking the first time radiation has been measured from the surface of another planet, preliminary data collected using the rover's Radiation Assessment Detector (or RAD for short) revealed that levels on the ground are similar to what astronauts encounter on the International Space Station. What's that mean for space travel. "The astronauts can live in this environment," Don Hassler, principal investigator on Curiosity's RAD hardware, said in a press conference.

In addition to its new aerodynamic bodywork, the 2014 Outlander will bring with it advanced tech like Forward Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning and Adaptive Cruise Control, each with its own fancy sounding acronym.
