Nielsen confirms Android on top, buyers split on next smartphone

In a recent report from Nielsen, Google snagged 40 percent of the smartphone market, while Apple captured approximately 28 percent - up just barely .01 percentage point from last year. This report coincides with findings filed earlier this week by ComScore, citing Google with 41.8 percent market share and Apple with 27 percent, up one whole percentage point from last year. Diving a bit deeper, Nielsen found that around 33 percent of people planning to buy a smartphone in the next year want an iPhone, while another 33 percent would prefer an Android. The tie between those who want an Android v.

Lenovo announces the IdeaPad A1, a 7-inch Android tablet priced from $199

Lenovo announces the IdeaPad A1, a 7-inch Android tablet priced from $199

If you thought that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 and the Toshiba AT200 were the only tablets to be announced today, well, you were wrong. Lenovo also had something to show us at IFA. The IdeaPad A1 is a 7-inch tablet that looks familiar, since we've already seen it once before. Now unlike the other two tablets unveiled today, this won't claim to be one of the thinnest around. Just one of the cheapest.

The 8 GB version of the IdeaPad A1 is set to cost $199, although using US Dollars there is a bit odd, considering that this particular version of the tablet will never make it to the US. Strange, we know.

Creative doles out Sound Blaster gaming headsets, Recon3D audio platform / sound cards

Creative doles out Sound Blaster gaming headsets, Recon3D audio platform / sound cards

Creative isn't nearly the aural force it once was, but it's still a respected name when it comes to headsets and - gasp. - sound cards. Here at IFA, the outfit has busted out a new range of Sound Blaster (yeah, seriously) gaming headsets for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Mac platforms. The 360-friendly Sound Blaster Tactic360 Sigma is being revealed with a steel core headband design and 50mm audio drivers, not to mention separate voice and game audio controls.

Lenovo Ideapad U400, U300 – Macbook Pros Cousins

Inside, you can choose between a second generation Core i3, i5 or i7, add up to 1TB storage AND a 64GB SSD. The memory maxes out at 4GB (6GB would have been a dream…) but you've got an internal drive and speakers that look decent. Interestingly, Lenovo estimates the battery life to 7hrs (in standard depletion mode, with display on), which is not bad at all for this type of computer. It is probably best to wait for the independent tests, however.I'm anxious to see what the display and the keyboards feel like. I was very impressed by the Lenovo X1 keyboard, but I was a bit disappointed by its display.

Striiv – The Pedometer that gives back while you get fit

The Striiv pedometer is a very cool idea. It's a pedometer not unlike the Fitbit which I just reviewed, as it counts your steps. But the comparison stops there because the Striiv has the potential to motivate you more than similar products. How. First of all, it's a bit snazzier with the  large color touch screen LCD. That LCD comes in handy because your walking, running and stepping powers built in games. One game called MyLand takes your movements and uses them to build a world where the more you move, the more your enchanted island fills with exotic wildlife and plants.

Samsung Slate PC Series 7 announced

Samsung Slate PC Series 7 announced

Samsung has a new Slate PC Series 7 officially – just don't confuse it with the Series 7 CHRONOS, where this particular model will skirt the boundaries of a tablet and a notebook in a super slim device – measuring just 12.9mm thin while tipping the scales at a mere 860 grams. Underneath the hood lies an Intel Core i5 processor with Windows 7 as the operating system of choice. The 11.6" display will serve its purpose well, and if you decide to hook up the Slate PC Series 7 to a docking station, you will have the slate function as a desktop, thanks to the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
