HTC has filed four infringement claims against Apple, using patents the second-largest smartphone manufacturer bought from Google last week. These nine patents were previously owned by Palm, Motorola, and Openwave Systems, before Google takes ownership last year. Google's spokesperson refuse to discuss the reasons of these patents' transfer to HTC, although technology analysts claim that it is probably due to Google's interest in protecting its Android licensees. HTC's latest complaint is seen as a way to fend off Apple's multiple patent infringement claims against them, claiming that Android-powered smartphones are copycats of the iPhone.
